BACKGROUND: Anishinabe Legal Services (ALS) is a Legal Services Corporation (LSC) funded 501(c)(3) organization providing free legal assistance and court representation to low-income individuals living on or near the Leech Lake, White Earth, and Red Lake Reservations in Northern Minnesota.
RESPONSIBILITIES: ALS is looking for an attorney to provide civil legal
assistance and court representation to program clients before area Tribal
Courts, State Courts, and Administrative Forums. This attorney will be
housed out of our satellite office in the judicial/tribal headquarters on the White
Earth Reservation in White Earth, MN which is 25 miles from Detroit Lakes.
Primary duties will include handling Children in Need of Protective
Services (CHIPS) cases, civil commitment defense, and other civil matters
before both the White Earth Tribal Court.
Anishinabe Legal Services will assist in obtaining a license to practice
in the Tribal court.
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified applicants must possess strong oral and written
communication skills, negotiation skills, litigation skills, and the ability to
handle a large caseload of client matters throughout a wide geographic service
area. Applicants must also be able and willing to work efficiently and
effectively as part of a team and be able to write detailed notes on the Case
Management System. 0+ years of experience are welcome to apply.
Prior
experience or education regarding working within Indian Country and/or Native
Americans is preferred, but not required. Native American attorneys are

COMPENSATION: $62,000/yr.+ D.O.E. Generous benefit package for
individual and family health and dental insurance, paid time off, paid holidays
and life insurance. We allow flex scheduling of the 37.5 hour full time
work-week. Hybrid home and office hours available.
